It's always so exciting to celebrate the announcement of an author's debut novel - and this one is a little extra exciting for me, because it's my debut deal as an agent! I fell in love with Kristy Boyce's HOT BRITISH BOYFRIEND when I first read it last year and immediately knew she had something special in Ellie and the characters that accompanied her journey through England and to figuring herself out.
Here's the official announcement that went out in Children's Bookshelf yesterday!
Huge congratulations, Kristy! I am so happy your dreams are coming true and I can't wait for HOT BRITISH BOYFRIEND to be on shelves - not long now!
Yes, indeed she does! The prolific and multi-faceted author of the fantastic young adult non-fiction titles GOOGLE IT and ELON MUSK: A MISSION TO SAVE THE WORLD, as well as the forthcoming picture book, SAVING THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE (April 14, y’all! Mark your calendars!), is up to her old tricks. That is to say—she is writing more amazing books and getting them published!
Here is the deal announcement that posted, with everything you need to know about this delicious new book that’s simmering in the pot and just about ready to serve up:
Melissa Kim at Islandport Press has acquired world rights to Anna Redding’s nonfiction picture book CHOWDER RULES: THE TRUE STORY OF AN EPIC FOOD FIGHT, about the great showdown between Maine and Manhattan over the correct way to make the beloved dish, with illustrations by Vita Lane. Ammi-Joan Paquette at Erin Murphy Literary Agency represented the author, and the illustrator represented herself. Publication is planned for October 2020.
Huge congratulations, Anna!!!
As an author who has a special connection to the outdoors, specifically parks in her backyard in the mountains of California, Terry Pierce's text felt like returning home for her. Paired with the amazing illustrations by Nadja Sarell, this board book for youngsters (picnicking with their families at Yosemite) helps all of us to understand how to help bears eat only what they should.
Adonia Ripple and Katie Coit of Yosemite Conservancy have acquired Terry Pierce's EAT UP, BEAR!, a board book featuring the good natural foods black bears should eat, to be illustrated by Nadja Sarell, publishing summer 2021. Tricia Lawrence of Erin Murphy Literary Agency represented the author and Kate Kendrick of Astound US represented the illustrator.
Coming to Yosemite National Park’s gift shops (and bookstores!) in summer 2021, this board book is sure to be a fun keepsake from a glorious day spent in nature.
There are some stories where you read the page, the first paragraph, the first sentence and you feel that lightning-bolt strike that says: This is the one.
Friends and readers: THIS IS THE ONE!
From the first moment of my reading, Karla Valenti wooed me into her skillful web of words, and I could not put this book down until I had turned the last page. Happily for the world, I was not alone in my response! The manuscript was an instant sensation when I sent it on submission, leading to incredibly heated auction—and here is the final result:
I could not be more thrilled to anticipate this book hitting the shelves. Mark your calendars, because it’s one you do not want to miss!
Huge congratulations, Karla!!
