You know how sometimes you read a novel that is so inventive, so warm-hearted, and so uplifting that you want to share it with the world?

Oh my gosh, are you going to be feeling this way when you can get your hands on Mylisa Larsen’s debut novel, PLAYING THROUGH THE TURNAROUND! Through an ensemble cast of eighth graders, Mylisa perfectly captures that time when kids’ worlds are opening up and they are forming strong opinions and learning to stand up for what they believe in, but the grownups around them haven’t quite caught up. It will make you cry and cheer at the same time.

Anne Hoppe at Clarion snapped up the project in a preempt, and it’s scheduled for fall 2022, which will be upon us before we know it.

Huge congratulations, Mylisa!

Every book has an origin story, and—as all of we writers and readers know—these can spring from just about anywhere. But there are some books, the most meaningful and special ones, that come not from an idea but from a person, from a place, from a time. Some books are heart-straight.

And never was this more true than in the case of Jacob Sager Weinstein’s powerful new picture book, which is drawn directly from the youth of his mother, Rosa, when her family had to flee Europe on the advent of World War II. Here is the deal announcement for this breathtaking and heartwarming book soon to come:

Ben Rosenthal at Katherine Tegen Books has acquired Jacob Sager Weinstein’s newest picture book, WHAT ROSA BROUGHT, with illustrations by Eliza Wheeler. This poignant true story—based on life events in Jacob’s family—tells of a young Jewish girl who lives with her family in Vienna in 1938, and what happens when the world begins to change around them. Ammi-Joan Paquette at Erin Murphy Literary Agency represented the author and Jennifer Rofé at Andrea Brown Literary Agency represented the illustrator, in a deal for world rights. Publication will be in fall 2023.

An unbeatable story, an unbeatable team. Mark your calendars, folks—this one’s a fair way out, but mustn’t be missed!

Congratulations, Jacob!

It’s another announcement time for Jean Reidy! I’m so happy to share this.

The latest? GRAND DAY is a celebration of the fun times that grandkids and grandparents have when they’re together. This one came about through a collaboration with Catbird Productions illustrator Samantha Cotterill, and remarkably, the day I sent Jean the sample art to see if she was inspired to write a text to go with it, her third grandchild was being born! How perfect is that?

Samantha’s publishing team at Paula Wiseman Books—Sylvie Frank editing, Lizzy Bromley art directing—snapped this one up and it’s expected to release in fall 2022.

Congratulations, Jean!
